This position specializing in lumber is responsible for strategically managing all aspects of the lumber procurement process. This includes developing and implementing procurement plans, establishing strong relationships with lumber suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and sustainability practices. The role involves analyzing market trends, managing costs, mitigating risks in the lumber supply chain, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to align procurement strategies with construction and business goals. The position focuses on continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency and contribute to the overall success of lumber procurement. Essential Duties and Functions
- Responsible for sourcing and procuring commodities and services, primarily lumber and connector plates, but including hangers, MRO, Production, & Shipping.
- Lumber Category Strategy: Develop and implement strategic procurement plans specifically tailored for the lumber category. Focus on optimizing cost savings, ensuring a sustainable supply chain, and maintaining high-quality lumber products.
- Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and establish strong relationships with lumber suppliers. Negotiate contracts, monitor supplier performance, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Cost Management in Lumber Procurement: Analyze market trends, pricing fluctuations, and cost structures in the lumber industry. Implement strategies to secure cost-effective lumber procurement while maintaining quality standards. Risk Management in Lumber Supply Chain: Assess and mitigate risks associated with the lumber supply chain, including potential disruptions, quality issues, and changes in market conditions affecting lumber prices and availability.
- Collaboration within Lumber Procurement: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including construction teams, project managers, and finance, to align lumber procurement strategies with overall construction and business goals.
- Compliance in Lumber Procurement: Ensure compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and ethical standards in all lumber procurement activities. Stay informed about sustainability practices in the lumber industry. Ability to research and generate reports. This position contributes to and will write Monthly Lumber Update for customers.
- Continuous Improvement in Lumber Procurement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency gains within lumber procurement. Implement best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives specific to the lumber category including participation in new vendors and re-evaluation process.
- Exhibits a strong sense of urgency to maintain high personal performance while making decisions and allocating resources in a cost-efficient manner.

Required Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years procurement experience, including purchasing, inventory control, contract negotiation, supply chain management, supplier relationships.
- Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience
- Must have minimum of 3 years Lumber buying experience-REQUIRED
- Contract execution and administration, purchase order execution, and the measurement/reporting of the value delivered
- Proficient in Excel
- Must be able to perform duties with moderate to low supervision
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Presentation and public speaking skills
- Strong and effective negotiation skills
- Ability to establish effective working relationship with all levels of business personnel
